Procrastination.

While i did manage to find a template that was free and didn’t totally suck (and worked for my purposes) without much work, I haven’t had a really good chance to sit down and dissect it. Right now I have three other projects on my plate, including redoing my professional portfolio, and another project that should be starting up sometime soon. Doesn’t leave a lot of time to play with Wordpress, although I need to make time.

It would really help if I had some kind of helper robot like Rosie, the Jetsons’ maid. Lord would that be helpful… When you do 95% of the cleaning and housekeeping, it gets hard to sit down and focus on work.

On that note, I believe it’s time to clean the microwave.

Fingerlings and Weird Meats, Hooray!

It’s been an interesting weekend, food-wise. After months of wanting to go but never getting around to it, I finally visited our local Publix Greenwise market after getting a gift card at Christmas. The whole premise of the store is a focus on organic, healthier foods – which to me means “more expensive”. Gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised.

The first cool thing I saw was a… cart escalator, I guess you could call it. The parking for the store is in a garage on top of the store itself, but I assumed you just took an elevator if you had a cart full of groceries. Oh no – the carts have their own escalator, between the up and down ones for us people. Then walking into the store, there’s a small food court area with different stations selling a variety of foods. I’m definitely going back soon to try the flat iron steak with chimichurri sauce. The real highlight of the store for me was the produce section. Lately finding decent produce at any of the usual grocery stores around me has become harder. This store had a massive produce section, and everything looked remarkably fresh for a change. Plus, they had a lot of stuff I’d wanted to try but could never find – at least not in good shape. It was all definitely pricier, being organic and all. Normally when I buy green onions they’re 59 cents a bundle, but this store was charging $1.29. But I have to admit, they did look a lot nicer.

So, after Greenwise, we headed home and I battled my tiny cramped kitchen and made us corn soup, lobster tails, asparagus with garlic and butter, and fingerling potatoes. My back hurt at the end due to counters that are too short for my height, and I was pretty damn frustrated dealing with a lack of counterspace, but everything came out well. Score.

Today, after picking up Michael’s glasses at the mall, we hit an awesome store on the way back home. It’s a teeny tiny grocery store that we love because they stock “weird meats”. You want ostrich? They have it, along with alligator, bison, venison, and frozen turduckens. Today’s pick was something I’d wanted to buy for ages, but never did because they’re a little on the pricey side – monster shrimp! The name suits them, as each shrimp is about 6-8 inches long. I doubt they’ll taste much different, but the novelty of huge shrimp finally sold me. So I guess tonight’s menu will be monster shrimp, grouper, and leftover veggies from last night. Sadly, we’ll be sans Family Guy, but at least we’ll have tasty food.

Another foray into Wordpress…

It’s been about two and a half years since I last played with Wordpress. I was introduced to Joomla at work awhile back, and since then have been using that for all my CMS needs. I love me some Joomla. There are thousands of extensions – many of which are free AND powerful – and for most of the work I’ve done in the past two years, Joomla really was perfect. But, when it comes to blogging… Well, there wasn’t a huge selection of extensions to choose from, and the ones that did exist didn’t really blow me away.

Now that I’ve decided to start a new blog, I’ve come back to Wordpress.

I wasn’t great with the themes. I built a couple very simple themes from scratch. They looked ok, and they worked fine, but I’d like to get some more practice in theming. I can customize a Joomla theme in no time flat and have it look totally different, so… Here’s hoping that I can eventually get to that level with Wordpress. I never did a whole lot with plugins in Wordpress, either, so this is an opportunity to change that, as well. Wee!

What’ll the blog be about…? That’s a good question. Life, I guess. Mostly it’s a re-learning experience for me, but it’ll also serve as a place to vent frustrations, share funny content gleamed from the Interwebs, and occasionally to just write on whatever subjects come up.

Now to preheat the oven for a flatbread pepperoni pizza… and find a theme to use + dismantle + reassemble to my liking.
